Abstract

Shalawat Burdah is poetic expression of love Imam Bushiri to Prophet Muhammad SAW. Moral values contained in the blessings Burdah among others about taubat, zuhud, patience, sincerity, tawakal, mahabbah. Shalawat Burdah meets the characteristics of the propagation of Islam: first, the art of worship and blessings clearly contain beads, because it contains the teachings of Islam about the blessings of the Prophet Muhammad Saw and the lyrics are loaded with rosary to God. Second, the real blessings containing shades of coolness and a reflection of the religious attitude of a person or a group. The art of giving identity blessings upon the lives of the Muslims can be seen and felt by others.

Abstract

The study aims at developing a nation character and culture values-based interactive English textbook and examining its effectivity for the elementary school students in Malang. The development and experiment designs are used and the subjects  consist of experts and target. The expert is an expert in instructional materials and multimedia, while the target is students of the sixth grade Elementary School Dinoyo IV Malang which totals 40 students. The true experiment design, pretest-posttest control group is used  by random sampling technique to obtain experiment and control groups, each of which consists of 20 students. The instruments are questionnaire, interview, and test. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the interactive English textbook fulfilled good criteria of textbook in either material coverage and selection or multimedia application. The positive responses of the students and teachers indicated good quality of textbook in improving students’ competences in English. Through statistical test, it was found t result (5.93)  was bigger than t table (1.310) in level of significance 0.01 and (1.697) in level of significance 0.05. It means that Ha which states “The students of class VIB Elementary School Dinoyo IV Malang who were taught using the nation character and culture values-based interactive English textbook, had better English competences than those of class VIA who were taught using manual English textbook” was accepted, while H0 was rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the  use of the textbook is very effective in improving the students English competences of Elementary School in Malang.

Abstract

This article aimed at describing students’ difficulties in writing research-based paper. It is expected that lecturers who teach research methodology course will get a lot of benefit from this study. The respondents of this research was 131 students who conducted a research which employed qualitative design and wrote their articles which showed the research results. The data gained showed that the university students’ who became the respondents had difficulties in writing research-based article related toqualitative research design. The difficulties were: most of the students showed their difficulties in identifying the research instrument, data sources, and relevant sources that support their research. Next, they were also had obstacle in explaining or discussing the result of their research. It means that they did not understand that qualitative researchdesign employs snowballing technique and enabling the researcher to generate theory.

Abstract

This study compares the folktale “The Story of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp” from the Arabian Nights, and the animated film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation under the title “Aladdin” (1992). The differences of those two stories in two different medias shows the shifts of ideology and discourse. The study applies Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, by applying the three stages of analysis.  The first level is micro level, on the language practice. In the second level, mezo level, discusses the discourse practice that covers the intertextuality of ideas, concept as the reference in delivering the ideas. In the third level, macro level, it interprets the social context of   particular events, especially the social practice in exercising their power. The finding shows that the Disney’s Aladdin campaigns ideology that refers to the American values such as freedom and American heroism. Besides, the discourse of Arab barbarism is developed in line with the practice of   stereotyping such as labeling the Arab people as barbaric, bad, silly and wicked as well as dangerous Arabs. These imply to the removals of the Islamic messages and values that exists in the original tales of Arabian Nights. The Disney’s Aladdin completely removes the Islamic messages and values, and changes them into ‘American values’.

Abstract

Presenting the comparative description of English derivation and Arabic derivatives, this paper is intentionally purposed to help students to understand the English derivation. Most of students, especially the students of Arabic department or students who are familiar with Arabic as they have learned before, regard that English language is difficult to learn. To solve this problem, the writer provides a comparative study by using Arabic as another language that he knows. This paper constitutes an exploratory study of derivatives in both English and Arabic, provides procedures in teaching English derivation to the students who have basic knowledge in Arabic, and then gives reflection and conclusion.

Abstract

Human being is social creature who needs other people to interact with. One of the ways to interact with others is communication with language. However, communication could be a complicated problem for those who were born with developmental disorder called Asperger Syndrome (AS). The communication challenge of Asperger’s is the difficulty using language appropriately for social purposes or known as pragmatic deficits. Many excellent books about autism are published whereas knowledge on pragmatic deficits are still very limited. Thus, it is expected to be a beneficial reference to understand the pragmatic deficits and to create strategies for them to communicate effectively. Therefore, this study aimed at exploring the kinds of pragmatic deficits of an individual with AS. The verbal language profiles of autism purposed by MacDonald (2004) is used to analyzed the data in depth. The descriptive qualitative method is applied to develop a comprehensive understanding about the AS case in Temple Grandin movie.The finding shows that all of the five types of communication deficits are appearing and the dominant of which is unresponsive.

Abstract

In this study, we addressed method and style in Arabic criticism. By the efforts of Arab critics of old and new issue, the subjects of study were as follows: First, the stylistic origins. It means a stylistic in linguistic and rhetoric and literary criticism and other related; Second, analysis of stylistic levels where we focus on stylistic study premises for literary texts; Third, a study of the method in the old Arab criticism, in this part of the study, we noted some efforts by Arab critics about stylistic and their relevance studies in this stylistic aspect; Fourth, the stylistic of contemporary Arab criticism. This aspect of the survey stood at some critics of contemporary Arab studies in Stylistics, as stated what distinguishes each study than other studies. It is included as an appendix in whale most important results achieved in this study.
